The Titleist Performance Institute was created around a philisophical shift in golf teaching. Rather than trying to force every golfer into a similiar "ideal" swing the founders of the Titleist Performance Institute realized the value of assessing the biomechanics of each individual golfer and either correcting biomechanical faults or designing the swing around those known limitations.
The TPI assessment begins with the same physical screen given to elite PGA tour professionals. This screen gives your TPI team insight into your biomechanics allowing them to design the optimum plan to improve your golf game!
The Huntsville TPI team consists of Dr. Ryan Davis, D.C. a Titleist Performane Institue Certified Medical Professional and Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf Professionals, Chris Harder and Mark Blackburn. The Huntsville TPI Team strives to provide amateur golfers the same level of evaluation and instruction available to collegiate and professional golfers.
Below TPI founder Dave Phillips discusses the TPI Experience!

SpineCare is excited to announce that we will be expanding and moving our Huntsville, Al office to a new location sometime this summer! The planning is done and the build out has started. Although we love our current location, we have just outgrown it. For those of you accustomed to our present location, don't worry we are only moving about 1 mile north of our current location.
Our new clinic will be located on Shoney Dr. off of Memorial Parkway. The new Huntsville office is brand new and larger than our current location. The new, larger office will allow us to bring Massage Therapy to our Huntsville location while also providing our 5 Chiropractic physicians spacier treatment rooms!
Check in frequently as we will be keeping everyone updated on the progress of the build out and our move!

The Huntsville half marathon took place this past weekend at Hillwood Baptist Church in southeast Huntsville. 1000 runners took part in the race that included a run through the southeast portion of the city and along a two-mile section of the Aldridge Creek Greenway, a 3.5-mile paved pathway designed for runners, walkers, joggers, cyclists and strollers that runs from Mountain Gap Road to Ditto Landing in the southern part of the city.
Designed to honor the service of veterans in Iraq and Afghanistan and support those recovering from combat injuries in both conflicts, the race started for those running the half marathon at 8:00 AM and for those running the 5K at 8:20 AM, and started with a run around the neighborhoods around Hillwood Baptist Church for the first three miles of the race. The remainder of the race took runners along Huntsville's Chicamauga Trail Southeast and through a number of twists and turns down to the intersection with Green Cove Road, where the race course winded its way to the Aldridge Creek Greenway.
Huntsville, Al Chiropractor, Ryan Davis was waiting at the finish line to treat any injured runners. A combination of Active Release Technique and stretching was used to treat everything from sore hamstrings to low back pain. Active Release Technique is the official soft tissue treatment for IRONMAN so the runners were in great hands with the certified ART providers at SpineCare. An ART treatment is actually a combination of examination and treatment where the provider uses his hands to evaluate the texture, tightness, and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated with precisely directed tension and very specific patient movements.

Huntsville, Al Chiropractor, Sean Caine gives a few tips on how to prevent back pain while golfing. A good dynamic warm up can go a long way towards preventing injury during a round of golf by improving mobility and engaging the stabilizing muscles of the core and shoulders. Injury can also occur due to poor swing mechanics. If this is the case a good functional assessment such as the Titleist Performance Institute Assessment can help diagnose the faulty movement pattern leading to pain. Correcting your weak link on the functional assessment not only can reduce your pain but often times will improve your overall golf game. Some of the more common weak links we find are decreased thoracic spine, pelvic, and hip joint mobility as well as stability issues in the core and shoulder. SpineCare's physicians utilize a combination of Active Release Technique to restore mobility and functional rehabilitation to create stability. The benefits of correcting these functional deficits extend far beyond the golf course leading to an overall better quality of life.

Dr. Anthony Houssain, a co-owner of SpineCare and Huntsville, Al Chiropractor, worked as a team physician for an international Ironman competition. He helped athletes at the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. Approximately 1,700 athletes from 30 countries finished the race, which included "a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run in the Hawaiian heat," Houssain said.
While he competes in triathlons locally, the meet in Hawaii was his first role involving "pre-race treatment." He has competed in triathlons for the past four years. This year he hopes to compete in his first half-Ironman triathlon.
For almost 10 years, Houssain has treated spine- and sports-related injuries and recently was certified in active release technique, "a soft-tissue therapy technique specific for overuse injuries related to endurance athletes including tri-athletes," he said. Several of Houssains patients are also devoted to the sport. "They compete at many levels of triathlon distance, including Ironman, half-Ironman, Olympic and sprint distances," he said. "Since Triathlons have become a passion of mine, experiencing the pain involved with endurance training, as well as having to care for myself, has allotted me some insight and empathy in managing injuries related to the sport," Houssain said.
A fellow competitor once put Houssain in humbling perspective. "While I was doing one of my first triathlons, a 56-year old woman passed me during the running leg of the competition," he said. "I realized then that it wasn’t how fast you run, but how fast you run tired."
Houssain said he never appreciated the many chances for injuries during training and the race. Fatigue causes runners to compromise their body’s ability "to protect itself while performing what seem like trivial tasks, such as removing your bike from the bike rack," he said. Using human movements to minimize injury plays an important part in protecting athletes in triathlons, Houssain said.
Houssain and his wife, Elizabeth, a speech pathologist with Restore, have a 3-year-old daughter, Emma.
Houssain and his SpineCare associate, Dr. Sean Caine, will open a second clinic in early 2006. SpineCare is at 3825 Sullivan Street, Suite 1. For more information, call 461-7775.

SpineCare, a clinic specializing in treating and relieving back and neck pain, was among the winners for Business of the Year by the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce. SpineCare won in the Personal Services category. The awards banquet was held August 26 at the Von Braun Center.
Dr. Anthony Houssain, chiropractic physician and clinic director, credits his win to the clinic's involvement in the business community "from Day 1, even before opening the clinic." As a result, business owners became familiar with the practice. "We used the tools that were here" with the Chamber to help our Clinic, he said. "That gave us a leg up and allowed us to prosper as quickly as we did."
SpineCare offers the following services:
- Work and sports-related neck and back disorders, the main workload.
- Nonsurgical neck and back problems ranging from whiplash to slipped discs.
- Referrals from area family physicians, orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians and obstetricians.
Six other groups were recognized at the awards banquet, Holly McClain said. She is communications director for the Huntsville/Madison County chamber.
Hearing SpineCare announced as the winner, Houssain was "pretty shocked. I didn't think we were going to win, but just being nominated was an honor." He was just looking forward to enjoying the night and only jotted down a few notes for an acceptance speech. "I had to ad lib while I was up there accepting the award." The 2003 Personal Services winner, Linda Hamlin with Linda's Printing Services, presented the award to Houssain.
Houssain gained the following credentials to practice at SpineCare:
- Board certification, American Academy of Pain Management.
- Diagnosis and clinical management of whiplash-related disorders, Spine Research Institute of San Diego.
- McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy of Spinal Disorders, McKenzie Institute, USA.
- National University of Health Sciences, Lombard, IL, bachelor's degree, human biology, and doctor of chiropractic.
Houssain's wife Elizabeth is a speech pathologist with Restore Care. Their daughter Emma just turned 2 years old.
